A Fresh Spin

Indians Pan for Gold in the AI Rush, Despite Few Dipping In Yet

While the world is abuzz with artificial intelligence, not many Indians are diving into the fray - just 31% have tried out generative AI tools as per a recent Google and Kantar survey. The country-wide poll, surveying over 8,000 participants across 18 cities, paints a picture of burgeoning interest and aspirations around AI, especially when it comes to boosting productivity, creativity, and communication.

However, awareness is still limited, with a staggering 60% of respondents unacquainted with AI. But the desire to leverage AI tools to better their lives is palpable, with 72% aiming to boost productivity, 77% wanting to amplify their creative faculties, and 73% yearning for more effective communication. Google's AI platform, Gemini, early adopters claim, already offers such benefits. Nearly 92% of users confess that the tool has boosted their confidence, 93% report increased productivity, and 85% believe it stimulates their imaginative powers.

Manish Gupta, Senior Director at Google DeepMind, boasts, "Gemini represents Google's most advanced AI model, pushing the envelope of what's possible - from dynamic video creation with Veo 2 to intuitive conversations through Gemini Live." The aim, he says, is to create a helpful, personal assistant for everyone.

With India leading the world in AI workforce growth, such confidence isn't unfounded. However, the road to such AI-assisted lives isn't without stumbling blocks. Overcoming challenges like getting started (68%) or a lack of skills/guidance (52%) can be daunting. Frustrations are real too - 61% of Indians have abandoned professional or creative goals due to these hurdles, while confidence takes a hit. 73% fret over how their message or tone comes across, and over two-thirds are paralyzed by the fear of exploring new opportunities like cooking or travel.

Beyond the workplace or classroom, Indians yearn for AI support in everyday tasks - from travel planning to budget management. Creativity, too, gets a boost, with 84% hopeful of adopting AI for personal growth, from assisting children with homework to discovering new hobbies.
