Advertisement-backed variant of Max to debut in additional regions
Warner Bros Discovery's HBO Max Introduces Ad-Supported Plan in Spain, Portugal, and Andorra
Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) is expanding its streaming service, HBO Max, with the introduction of an ad-supported plan in Spain, Portugal, and Andorra. The new subscription method will go live on April 8th.
The ad-supported plan offers access to quality content such as The White Lotus, The Last of Us, and breakout Spanish local original When Nobody Sees Us. HBO Max has already launched this plan in various countries including France, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Romania, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium, the US, Latin America, and Australia.
In Spain, the cost for the Basic with Ads plan will be €6.99 a month, while it will cost €5.99 in Portugal. The plan will also be available on Amazon in Spain and Andorra.
Luca Nicoli, VP Digital Ad-supported Services, EMEA at WBD, stated that expanding the advertising supported tier availability to Spain, Portugal, and Andorra gives brands a unique opportunity to partner with HBO Max. Brands can benefit from HBO Max's commercial break patterns designed to seamlessly integrate into the content viewing experience.
Alessandro Araimo, Executive Vice Presidente and Managing Director at WBD Iberia and Italia, commented on the launch, saying, "We are aware of advertisers wanting to spread their messages through reliable, solid, and distinctively positioned media in the market."
The new subscription method does not appear to be related to any ongoing issues or predictions in the satellite and broadband industry, such as the broadband direct-from-satellite issues in Pakistan or India, Starlink launches, or D2D satellite issues over India. It also does not seem to be part of the race for cellular consumers between Starlink and AST SpaceMobile, or the potential disruption of the US Cellular sector by Starlink.
The FCC's dominance in Space Race 2.0 does not appear to be relevant to the new subscription method for HBO Max in Spain. The new subscription method also does not appear to be connected to the potential collapse of SABC or the valuation of Starship business at $2.5tn by 2030, or any recent bank predictions about EchoStar.
HBO Max's new subscription method in Spain aims to provide a new way for the audience to access hundreds of memorable titles that are part of WBD's group. The positive response from subscribers to the rollout of the HBO Max with Ads plan has helped to expand the customer base.
Brands looking to advertise on HBO Max can take advantage of this new opportunity to reach a wider audience and connect with viewers through engaging content. With the ad-supported plan now available in Spain, Portugal, and Andorra, HBO Max continues to expand its reach and provide quality entertainment to audiences around the world.
