Advisory: Secure top-tier enhancements from the initial region of Death Stranding 2 prior to departure
Hittin' the Ground Running in Death Stranding 2's Mexico
- Quiet and Deadly
- All Hands on Deck: Gearin' up with Handy Weapons
- Stepping up Your Game: Traversalin' with Ease
If you're ready to strap on your boots and tackle the challenging landscape of Death Stranding 2, Mexico's the place to be! This region acts as a sorta tutorial, helping you get a hang of the game and discover some sweet gear that'll make your life as a porter way easier. But, with a stoopy story to progress, ya might be tempted to buzz off Mexico as soon as you can.
Take my advice and slow your roll, chum: Mexico is filled with goodies you definitely don't wanna miss! I spent a bit of time drivin' around, deliverin' packages, and generally spreadin' the porter love to the various shelters and bunkers across the land, and lemme tell ya, there's some kick-ass equipment up for grabs if you get friendly with the locals.
Here's a rundown of the gear you should aim to score early on, especially if you're playin' on a higher difficulty. (If you miss somethin', no worries: ya can always swing back to Mexico later, but you'll need to progress a good chunk of the next region first.)
This guide is based on the PS5 version of Death Stranding 2, but if things change when the PC version drops, expect a swanky update.
Quiet and Deadly: Silenced Machine Pistol
- Unlock: Acquire Three Stars with Ciudad Nudo Del Norte
If you're lookin' to sneak up on enemies and chuck some stealthy headshots, the Silenced Machine Pistol's the weapon to snag! Given Death Stranding 2's affinity for stealth, this puppy's practically a must-have, and honest to God, I still use it 20 hours in to clear bases.
All Hands on Deck: Gearin' up with Handy Weapons
Trekkin' Boots and Sticky Gun
- Unlock: Achieve Two Stars with The Bokka
Get acquainted with the dapper Prepper, The Bokka, and deliver some cargo 'critical' to his locations. He'll share SSS tips, offer chatty encouragement, and hook you up with some fancy equipment.
Reachin' one star with The Bokka scores ya some extra-grippy Trekkin' Boots that'll help ya stomp those slippery slopes. But it's the Sticky Gun, a Hannah Montana-style Wallet Phone of weapons, that takes the cake! This bad boy lets you snag packages hangin' outta reach. You know, like when all your cargo tumbles into a river and ya gotta fish it out quick.
Lightweight Assault Rifle (with grenade launcher)
- Unlock: Achieve Four Stars with Former Geophysics Research Lab
Kick it old school with a Level 2 Lightweight Assault Rifle! Amp up your combat and pack on some extra ammo and a handy MP shell grenade launcher. Just 'cause it's lightweight doesn't mean it lacks power!
Steppin' up Your Game: Traversalin' with Ease
EX Grenade
- Unlock: Achieve Two Stars with South Distribution Centre
Get your game on with some EX Grenades! These babies can handle BTs, gazers, hunters, and even slow down catchers, makin' them perfect for tight spots with tough enemies. And if you push for three stars, you'll score a higher-damage version of the original Blood Grenade as well.
Navigatin' can be a pain in Death Stranding 2, but with the right tools, ya can breeze through any environment. Good luck out there, porter!
