Leidos Secures $129.7 Million FBI Contract for Biometric Services
Leidos, a leading technology company, has been chosen by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to manage a five-and-a-half-year contract worth $129.7 million. The contract aims to support the FBI's Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division's Fingerprint Analysis Support Team (FAST) Biometric Services program.
The primary objective of the contract is to modernize and enhance the FBI's biometric identification capabilities. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance federal law enforcement technology infrastructure.
The contract will focus on CJIS biometric services, which encompass fingerprint analysis and various biometric technologies. Leidos has been working with CJIS since 2018, developing and integrating the Next Generation Identification (NGI) system. NGI is a cutting-edge biometric identification system utilized by the FBI, as well as state, local, federal, and tribal authorities.
Noteworthy features of the NGI system include the Repository for Individuals of Special Concern and Rap Back. The former aids in identifying potential threats, while the latter allows authorized users to receive notifications of any criminal activity reported by individuals holding positions of public trust.
Leidos has adopted agile methodology and development operations concepts into the software build rhythm. This approach fosters a strong working relationship between the Leidos development team and CJIS test, verification, and validation (TVV) teams. This collaboration enables efficient collaboration and the incremental integration of new technologies, enhancing the overall effectiveness of the biometric services program.
The contract's implementation signifies a significant stride in the FBI's modernization efforts. It underscores the agency's commitment to leveraging advanced technology in law enforcement. Additionally, the award underscores Leidos' continued prominence as a key partner in federal law enforcement technology developments.
Artificial-intelligence technologies will be integrated into Leidos' contract with the FBI to modernize and enhance the FBI's biometric identification capabilities. This includes the development and use of the Next Generation Identification (NGI) system, which employs advanced biometric technologies such as the Repository for Individuals of Special Concern and Rap Back.
