SkyDrive's Flying Car Takes to the Skies at Osaka Expo
In a significant step forward for urban mobility, SkyDrive Inc., a Japanese startup based in Toyota, Aichi Prefecture, has successfully demonstrated its flying car at the World Exposition in Osaka, Japan.
On Thursday, the company's flying car completed an approximately three-minute unmanned flight at the EXPO Vertiport in the Mobility Experience Area at the northwest corner of the Expo venue. The car moved forward some 50 meters during the demonstration and ascended about 4 meters.
Tomohiro Fukuzawa, CEO of SkyDrive Inc., confirmed that the flight went smoothly during the demonstration. He expressed his satisfaction that the flight was witnessed by visitors, stating, "We are delighted that our flying car was able to demonstrate its capabilities to the public."
The demonstration flight was originally scheduled for the opening day of the Expo in April, but was canceled due to bad weather. However, SkyDrive Inc. has now rescheduled the flights to run daily from August 1 until August 24, 2025. The flights will take place every Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with no flights scheduled on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Visitors can watch these flights without advance reservations by arriving near the vertiport before the announced flight times. However, flights may be postponed or canceled due to weather or maintenance issues.
