Alibaba, a massive Chinese business conglomerate, pays a visit to our establishment located in New Delhi
VMate, the popular Chinese social media app owned by the Alibaba Group, recently visited our campus in New Delhi for a design workshop. The event, which took place in November 2019, served as a cultural exchange, sharing ideas and technology between the two teams.
Alex, Head of the Design Team at VMate, led the team and expressed enthusiasm about gaining insights into the students' inspiration for designs. The main agenda of the visit was to discuss India's design preferences and aesthetics, with the team coming prepared with questions targeting the present design sense and preference of the Indian audience.
The workshop provided an opportunity for students to gain insights into VMate's operations, as well as for the VMate team to learn about the habits and aspects of life that influence the students' designs. The students were given a choice between joining the design team or the content team for the final part of the workshop.
The Design Team of VMate aimed at predicting trends for future customisation purposes and showed interest in better understanding the significance of localization in design. The workshop concluded as a successful event, marked by the exchange of culture, ideas, and technology.
The VMate social media app allows users to record and post their daily life experiences with in-app CGI filters. The team also expressed a keen interest in understanding the significance of internationalization and localization of design, which was a key focus during the workshop.
The visit was aimed at furthering the students' knowledge of VMate's preference between content and design. The workshop proved to be beneficial for both the students at the institution and the Chinese representatives, providing a mutually enriching experience.
Regrettably, there is no publicly available detailed information about which specific designers and employees from Alibaba Group, the parent company of VMate, attended the workshop or their roles. However, the event undoubtedly marked a significant step towards fostering collaboration between Indian and Chinese design teams.
