Amazon's Devices & Services Unit Sees Major Shakeup: Dave Limp Retires, Tapas Roy Appointed

Amazon's Devices & Services unit has seen significant changes this week. Dave Limp, the Senior Vice President, has retired after 12 years with the company. Meanwhile, several teams have been consolidated, and new leadership has been appointed.

Limp's departure was announced in a company memo on October 2. He expressed optimism about the future of the business, citing a strong innovation pipeline and talented team. Panos Panay, Amazon's Senior Vice President of Devices and Services, will continue to advise the team until the end of the year.

In a significant shuffle, Tapas Roy has been appointed to Limp's former position. Roy, previously vice president overseeing Fire TV product and engineering, takes over from Rob Williams, who retired earlier this year. This move is part of a larger consolidation of teams within the devices unit, effective Thursday.

With Limp's retirement and Roy's promotion, Amazon's Devices & Services unit enters a new phase. The company's latest devices, including Echo, Fire TV, and Ring, all incorporate Alexa, reflecting Amazon's continued investment in AI and voice technology. As the unit looks ahead, it does so with a robust pipeline of innovations and a talented team, as Limp noted in his farewell message.
