Amy Adams potentially transforms into a canine in the new Nightbitch trailer

A Fresh Look:

Emmy-nominated actress Amy Adams is taking on an unconventional role in the upcoming film, Nightbitch. Instead of playing a fairy-tale princess or a crackling journalist, she stars as a woman who might be transforming into a canine.

The first trailer has dropped, demonstrating the movie's blend of comedy and domestic horror, with a dash of supernatural weirdness. Nightbitch is described as a "satirical fairy tale," and it certainly embraces the enigmatic dog question at the heart of the story.

Rachel Yoder's 2021 best-seller serves as the base for Marielle Heller's film. Heller, who penned the Nightbitch screenplay and directed the movie, is no stranger to narratives about complex women. Her previous works, like Can You Ever Forgive Me? and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, spotlight troubled females navigating their way through life. Nightbitch, however, appears to be her most daring venture yet – the tagline being "Motherhood is a different beast."

Adams, a six-time Oscar nominee, serves as the perfect focal point for this journey of self-discovery and examination of the pressure new mothers face to maintain happiness amidst sky-high responsibilities. (By the way, Scoot McNair co-stars as the husband who should probably exercise more caution with his words.)

Heller's previous projects have involved narratives of challenging women, such as Can You Ever Forgive Me? boasting Melissa McCarthy as a desperate author resorting to forgery and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood centering around a distressed writer (and a well-known television personality) in Mr. Rogers' biopic. However, Nightbitch promises to be her most edgy work yet.

The cast includes Jessica Harper, famous for her roles in Suspiria and Phantom of the Paradise, Zoë Chao (The Afterparty), Mary Holland (Happiest Season), Archana Rajan, Arleigh Patrick Snowden, and Emmett James Snowden. The film will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival soon before hitting theaters in a limited release on December 6.
