Apple allegedly obtains a startup focusing on developing an application for monitoring asthma conditions.
Apple snagged a startup that was all about finding a solution for keeping tabs on asthma in kids, as reported by CNBC last Friday. Sources close to the tech giant's deal to buy Tueo Health spilled the beans before the announcement.
Before Apple swooped in, Tueo was busy building an app that utilizes sensor data to give parents a detailed glance into their child's sleep patterns, specifically those with asthma. This information helps identify potential issues, providing parents the heads-up they need to manage their kids' conditions better.
As described by Tueo co-founder and CEO Bronwyn Harris, the system uses commercially available sensors to monitor asthmatic children during their snoozes. By analyzing the data collected, the technology establishes a personalized baseline for each child. Any deviations from this baseline trigger alerts, which are then sent to parents. These alerts offer contextual information, educational support, and real-time coaching to help parents effectively manage their child's asthma.
Harris hinted that while the tool was designed for children, the system would eventually be expanded for adult use as well. Moreover, Tueo had plans to develop applications for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, given its lack of efficient management methods.
Neither Tueo nor Apple responded to requests for comment, but CNBC noted that both Harris and Tueo COO Anura Patil have worked for Apple since 2018, according to their LinkedIn profiles.
The reported acquisition by Apple comes just a week before their Worldwide Developers Conference, where they're rumored to unveil updates to their Health app. These updates might include a menstrual cycle tracker and a function for monitoring hearing health.
At the TIME 100 Summit last month, Apple CEO Tim Cook mentioned that the company is working on several health-related projects. He also hinted that they'd make a significant contribution to healthcare in future - possibly its most significant contribution ever.
- The acquisition of Tueo Health by Apple signifies the tech giant's interest in expanding its health-related offerings, as reported by LinkedIn profiles indicating that Tueo co-founder and CEO Bronwyn Harris and COO Anura Patil have worked for Apple since 2018.
- The technology developed by Tueo, such as their asthma monitoring system, could play a role in Apple's future plans for healthcare, as suggested by CEO Tim Cook at the TIME 100 Summit.
- In the future, the Tueo system, which uses sensor data to monitor asthma in children and sends alerts to parents, could potentially be expanded to monitor other conditions like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
- The acquisition of Tueo Health by Apple is a strategic move towards shaping the future of technology, with a focus on health and wellness, as Apple aims to make a significant contribution to the healthcare industry.
