Apple's iOS 26.1 Brings 'Slide to Stop' Gesture for Alarms and Timers
Apple is set to introduce a new gesture in iOS 26.1, expected by the end of October. The 'slide to stop' feature, reminiscent of the classic 'slide to unlock', will now be used to silence alarms and timers. This change aims to prevent accidental deactivations, following the larger buttons introduced in the September update.
The new 'slide to stop' gesture requires users to swipe across the screen to turn off alarms. This design aims to ensure intentional alarm deactivation, as it demands some concentration to perform the action. Apple has been working on improving user interface consistency, applying this new operation to timers as well.
The upcoming iOS 26.1 update also focuses on enhancing third-party smartwatch support. This improvement is in response to a request from the EU Commission under the Digital Markets Act. While the specific team leading this work remains unnamed, the update promises better notification forwarding to compatible smartwatches.
