Artificial Intelligence set to play dual role on YouTube for content creators: generating content and combating deepfakes

In the world of online video streaming, YouTube continues to lead the way with its latest updates, as announced at the Made on YouTube event on September 16. The event, which emphasised a commitment to empowering creators, fostering community, and redefining how the world watches, listens, and connects, highlighted features across YouTube's traditional videos, Shorts, Live, and Studio.

Experienced technology and camera writer, Hillary K. Grigonis, reported on the event for various publications including Business Insider, Digital Trends, Pocket-lint, Rangefinder, The Phoblographer, and more. Grigonis, who is the leading US coverage for Digital Camera World, is an accomplished writer known for her journalistic style in wedding and portrait photography. She is also a licensed drone pilot and has tested a wide range of cameras and lenses across multiple brands.

One of the most significant updates to YouTube Live was the largest update yet, bringing a practice option before the real livestream, streaming across vertical and horizontal formats simultaneously, live reaction videos, AI-powered live highlights, livestream games called Playables, and a new side-by-side ad format. This update aims to provide creators with more flexibility and interactivity in their livestreams.

YouTube's commitment to creators extends beyond livestreaming. The platform supports creators from single-person channels to multi-million dollar operations like Mr. Beast. In line with this, YouTube is introducing more tools to YouTube Music as part of the Made on YouTube updates. These tools include an AI chatbot, an AI-powered inspiration tab, and a collaboration tool.

YouTube is also expanding its likeness detection tool, now in open beta for Partner Program creators. This tool, designed to help creators manage their content more effectively, is part of YouTube's efforts to empower creators to enter new genres of work. The platform aims to help creators animate still photos into videos and turn podcasts into videos, among other things.

Reaction videos on YouTube now have live capabilities, allowing one creator to respond to another currently livestreaming creator. This feature adds a new dimension to the interactive nature of YouTube, fostering community and engagement among creators and viewers.

In the background, AI enhancements are happening in beta tests for some creators on YouTube. The use of AI is also evident in the new tools for YouTube Shorts. These tools, which use Google Veo, include sound generation, animating still photos, stylizing videos, adding objects to a video, an AI-built first draft tool, and a new Speech to Song remixing tool.

YouTube Studio's new chatbot has the ability to answer questions and make suggestions on viewer engagement. The studio's new inspiration tab also highlights suggested topics based on your feed, using audience behavior to suggest why an idea may work.

With over 20 years as an internet mainstay, YouTube continues to innovate and adapt to the changing needs of its creators and viewers. The Made on YouTube event underscored YouTube's dedication to its community and its commitment to providing the best possible platform for creators to share their content and connect with their audience.
