Asahi Kasei Launches US Hydrogen Push with Japanese Backing
Asahi Kasei, a Japanese chemical company, has taken significant steps in the hydrogen sector. It has joined the Japan Hydrogen Forum (JH2F) and received backing from the Japanese government and organizations like JETRO, NEDO, JOGMEC, and NEXI. The company aims to contribute to the establishment of a hydrogen society in the US.
Asahi Kasei has installed a 10 MW-scale alkaline water electrolysis system at the Fukushima Hydrogen Energy Research Field (FH2R). This system will be used for trial operations in a NEDO/Green Innovation Fund demonstration project, with the goal of commercializing larger-scale systems.
The company plans to expand its business in the US, focusing on large-scale alkaline water electrolysis systems and their after-sales and technical services. While other Japanese companies involved in similar US hydrogen-related businesses exist, specific details are not provided.
Asahi Kasei's hydrogen-related business is a key part of its '10 Growth Gears' (GG10) strategy. Through its involvement in JH2F and its subcommittees, the company is committed to supporting decarbonization in the US.
