Citroën to Make a Comeback in Formula E

Citroën is set to make a return to international motorsport, participating in the upcoming season of Formula 1. This marks the French automaker's first involvement in the series since 2020.

The commitment to Formula 1 aligns with Citroën's brand values and future visions in sustainable mobility. Sébastien Buemi, a likely candidate, is tipped to take the starting position for Citroën as a factory team in the upcoming Formula 1 season.

Citroën, part of the Stellantis group, will not develop its own technology for Formula 1 but will utilise existing technology from within the group. This strategic move reflects Citroën's focus on sustainable mobility and its alignment with the series' mission.

While the starting position for Citroën in Formula 1 remains unknown, more details about the car, drivers, and other specifics will be revealed in October. Following the unveiling, the official winter testing in Valencia will take place a week later.

Formula 1 is described as a "100% electric, responsible, and committed racing series." The races in urban centers attract a young and digitally connected audience, making it an ideal platform for brands like Citroën to showcase their commitment to sustainable mobility.

Meanwhile, Maserati's involvement in Formula 1 is reported to be on shaky ground due to economic uncertainties. DS Automobiles, a subsidiary of Stellantis, has been active in Formula 1 for years and has won titles in the past. DS Automobiles has provided powertrains to Maserati, which has been racing in Formula 1 since 2023.

Citroën's entry into Formula 1 is motivated by the series' sustainable character. As the world continues to grapple with climate change, the importance of promoting electric and sustainable racing cannot be overstated. With Citroën's return to the international motorsport scene, we can look forward to exciting times ahead in the world of Formula 1.

Stay tuned for more updates as we approach October, when more details about Citroën's Formula 1 campaign will be revealed.
