According to an interview with David Allison, head of product and planning at MG UK, the S5 EV will feature a 62 kWh Lithium iron phosphate battery, offering a real-world driving range of approximately 425-430 km. The SUV will be powered by a rear motor producing around 125 kW (170 hp) and 250 Nm of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 8.6 seconds (MG S5 Essence model).
With five seats and practical dimensions suitable for everyday use, the S5 EV aims to balance practical size, range, and affordability, making it an attractive entry-level electric SUV option. It also supports fast DC charging at 150 kW, capable of charging from 10% to 80% in approximately 0.43 hours.
The anticipated release date for the MG S5 EV is around mid-2025, with models already available in some markets since May 2025. In terms of pricing, the MG S5 Essence model is expected to start at approximately $48,990 AUD drive-away in Australia, positioning it competitively against rivals like BYD and Tesla. In Malaysia, the price starts around RM 116,548 to RM 130,548 depending on the variant.
