Automotive manufacturer GWM initiates pre-orders for the revised version of Tank 500 SUV, with a starting price tag of $50,080.
Great Wall Motor (GWM) has announced the launch of pre-sales for the updated Tank 500 SUV, introducing an impressive array of features and technologies. One of the standout additions is the integration of the third-generation driver assistance system, Coffee Pilot Ultra.
Coffee Pilot Ultra boasts an advanced sensor suite, designed to provide comprehensive driving assist functions across various scenarios. Urban streets, highways, rural roads, and private compounds are all covered by this premium system. The sensor suite includes a 128-channel Hesai ATX LiDAR mounted on the roof, three millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 11 high-definition cameras, strategically placed on the front fenders, rear spoiler, and other locations.
This sophisticated system supports high-speed and urban pilot-assisted driving (NOA: Navigate on Autopilot), smart parking functions, and a wide range of assistance for diverse driving scenarios. It is considered a standard feature, including a Highway/Urban NOA system.
The system's technical sophistication lies in its integration with Coffee OS 3 vehicle operating system for real-time control and interaction. It also utilizes 27 smart sensors in total to enhance environment perception and safety.
Moreover, the updated Tank 500 comes with user-friendly enhancements such as control of rear-seat entertainment and other vehicle functions via voice, gesture, touch, and remote mobile control. The gesture recognition system, Coffee Air Touch, supports rear-seat commands.
The SUV also features a 12.3-inch full LCD instrument panel and a 14.6-inch central touchscreen, paddle shifters on the steering wheel column, luxurious Nappa leather seats with ventilation, heating, and massage functions, and a 17.3-inch 3K ceiling entertainment screen for rear passengers.
The Tank 500 is available in two versions: the Tank 500 Hi4-T and Tank 500 Hi4-Z. The Hi4-T is equipped with a single motor and a battery pack with a capacity of 37.1 kWh, offering a WLTC battery range of 110 kilometers. On the other hand, the Hi4-Z is equipped with dual motors and a battery pack with a capacity of 59.05 kWh, providing a WLTC battery range of 201 kilometers. The pre-sale prices for the Hi4-T and Hi4-Z are RMB 360,000 and RMB 388,800, respectively.
In July, the Tank brand contributed 19.18 percent to Great Wall Motor's monthly sales, selling 20,020 vehicles, a 7.16 percent increase year-on-year. The updated Tank 500 secured 7,289 pre-orders within two hours of the start of pre-sales.
It's worth noting that Great Wall Motor's chairman has teased the development of a Ferrari-rivaling supercar, hinting at the company's ambitious plans beyond the Tank 500.
The updated Tank 500 will be equipped with ATour X LiDAR provided by Hesai Group. The smart driving chip in the Coffee Pilot Ultra system is Nvidia Orin. The updated Tank 500 measures 5,078 mm in length, 1,934 mm in width, and 1,905 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,850 mm, identical to its predecessor. The Tank 500 Hi4-T focuses more on off-road performance, while the Tank 500 Hi4-Z is more family use-oriented.
In the first seven months of the year, the Tank brand sold 123,680 vehicles, a 8.19 percent decrease year-on-year. With the launch of the updated Tank 500, Great Wall Motor aims to regain its momentum and continue its growth in the competitive SUV market.
