BMW Drops Gasoline, Diesel X4; iX4 Electric to Follow in 2026

BMW has announced plans to discontinue the gasoline and diesel BMW X4 models by the end of November 2025. The move paves the way for the introduction of the all-electric BMW iX4, set to enter production in November 2026 at BMW's new plant in Debrecen.

The current BMW X4, produced in Spartanburg, USA, will cease production of its gasoline variants on September 30, 2025. This includes the 30i, 30i xDrive, and M40i models, which have been removed from the German configurator. The diesel models, including the 20d, 30d, and M40d, will also be phased out by the end of November 2025.

The iX4, set to mirror the iX3, will initially be available in 50 xDrive, 40 xDrive, and 40 sDrive versions. Production will begin in November 2026 at the new Debrecen plant. Later in 2027, an M Performance iX4 M60 is rumored to join the lineup. Additionally, a full-fledged X4 M (ZA7) may arrive to complete the range.

The BMW X4 will take a break after the end of 2025, with no internal combustion successor planned. The all-electric BMW iX4, based on the Neue Klasse platform, is expected to return in 2027, marking BMW's commitment to electric vehicles.
