Boeing 757 Takes Final Flight in UK Skies
The Boeing 757 has taken its final bow in the UK skies, marking the end of an era for aviation enthusiasts worldwide. Jet2's last passenger flight of this iconic aircraft type took off on January 5, 2025, between Manchester and Geneva.
The Boeing 757's journey in the UK began in 1983 with British Airways, which operated 53 of these aircraft until their retirement in 2010. Over the years, British Boeing 757s flew an impressive 3.1 million flights and accumulated 8.1 million flight hours, carrying 471 million passengers.
Jet2, the last British airline to operate the Boeing 757, bid farewell to this aircraft type with the historic flight. The last Boeing 757 in Jet2's fleet, G-LSAI, a 37-year-old aircraft, operated the farewell tour. This aircraft will now be transferred to Wales on January 7, 2025, and perform a symbolic flyover above Leeds Bradford Airport.
Boeing produced a total of 1,050 Boeing 757s between 1982 and 2004. While approximately 210 still remain in passenger service today, the UK's last operator, Jet2, has phased out its remaining eight Boeing 757s throughout 2024.
The departure of the Boeing 757 marks a significant moment in UK aviation history. This aircraft has served millions of passengers and accumulated countless flight hours. As Jet2's G-LSAI takes to the skies one last time, it signifies the end of an era for this iconic aircraft type in the UK.
