Boris FX designates Moritz Fortmann as the product manager for SynthEyes software.
In a significant move for the 3D camera solve application, Boris FX SynthEyes has announced the appointment of Moritz Fortmann as its new product manager. Fortmann, a seasoned industry veteran with nearly two decades of experience, brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the role.
SynthEyes, a popular tool among visual effects professionals, is set to benefit greatly from Fortmann's leadership. He will be working closely with SynthEyes creator Dr. Russ Andersson, with whom he shares a strong rapport. Fortmann's understanding of the Boris FX ecosystem and his eagerness to enhance SynthEyes are seen as valuable assets.
The latest version of SynthEyes, 2025.5, introduces significant new features and workflows. Key among these is the ML Motion Estimation, an AI-based auto-tracking mode that uses machine learning to estimate pixel motion between frames. This feature is expected to offer artists greater control and time-saving benefits, particularly in tracking challenging shots with smooth surfaces, rapid motion, occlusion, low contrast, or lighting changes.
Another notable enhancement is the Parent Mesh to Tracker workflow, which allows users to parent 3D meshes directly to individual trackers in the viewport with a single click. This feature is designed to improve iteration speed and layout efficiency.
The Flexible Lens Workflow Export, another new feature, introduces a non-destructive lens undistortion approach during export. This export-only lens workflow is consistent across export modules and improves reliability and compatibility across different 3D and compositing applications.
Additional improvements include support for 17K RAW footage and more robust handling of camera solves, contributing to less manual rework and a more predictable pipeline experience.
Moritz Fortmann, in his role as product manager, is focused on further developing the 3D tracking and matchmove tools in SynthEyes. He highlights that the Lens Workflow export makes lens handling "rock-solid" and consistent across applications, while Parent Mesh to Tracker dramatically speeds up layout and iteration tasks, saving significant time for artists.
Dr. Russ Andersson, the creator of SynthEyes, is elated to present Moritz Fortmann as a dedicated product champion. Andersson highly regards Fortmann's expertise and skills, and believes that his appointment marks a new phase for the 3D camera solve application.
SynthEyes is an essential tool for VFX workflow, integrating digital elements with live-action footage. With these new features and Fortmann's leadership, SynthEyes is poised to offer even more powerful solutions to visual effects professionals. Boris Yamnitsky, CEO/Founder of Boris FX, is delighted to have Fortmann on board and looks forward to the future of SynthEyes.
Technology will play a crucial role in the advancement of SynthEyes, as the latest version introduces AI-based auto-tracking (ML Motion Estimation) and non-destructive lens undistortion (Flexible Lens Workflow Export) for improved 3D tracking and matching moves.
Under the leadership of Moritz Fortmann, the product manager, SynthEyes is set to leverage technology to offer greater control, time-saving benefits, and more efficient workflows for visual effects professionals.
