BreachForums Founder Resentenced to 3 Years in Prison
Conor Brian Fitzpatrick, the 22-year-old creator of BreachForums, has been resentenced to three years in prison. The US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit overturned his initial 17-day sentence, deeming it too lenient. Despite this, BreachForums continues to operate under a new domain, Breach.Lol.
Fitzpatrick's journey into the hacking underworld began when he created BreachForums in 2021, following the FBI's shutdown of its predecessor, RaidForums. RaidForums, with over half a million users, was one of the world's largest hacking forums. BreachForums operated similarly, serving as a platform for criminals to trade hacked and stolen data.
Fitzpatrick profited from BreachForums by charging users for credits and membership fees. He pleaded guilty to hacking charges and possession of child sexual abuse material in July 2023. Initially, he was sentenced to a mere 17 days in prison, but prosecutors argued for a much longer sentence, ultimately securing a three-year term.
The Department of Justice disrupted BreachForums and arrested Fitzpatrick in March 2023. Despite his resentencing, BreachForums continues to operate under the new domain, Breach.Lol. The court's decision sends a clear message that such activities will not be tolerated, and those involved will face significant consequences.
