BYD Automotive submits application for an enhanced U9 sports car, boasting twice the horsepower of its predecessor
Yangwang U9 Electric Supercar Unveils Enhanced Performance with High-Speed Motor Technology
The Yangwang U9 electric supercar, produced by BYD sub-brand Yangwang, is set to receive a significant performance upgrade. This comes as the company prepares for the vehicle's approval for sale in China, with public feedback being accepted between August 9 and 15.
At the heart of this enhancement is BYD's high-speed motor technology, which has a speed of up to 30,511 rpm, the highest among mass-produced motors. This technology, first seen in the Han L EV and Tang L EV models launched on April 9, will now be integrated into the new Yangwang U9.
Each of the four motors in the new U9 will boast a peak power output of 555 kW (744 hp), more than double the current U9's 240 kW. This upgrade results in a combined output of a staggering 2,220 kW (3,019 hp), marking a substantial increase from the previous around 1,300 hp.
This power boost is set to significantly enhance the U9's acceleration performance and top speed capability. The new U9 Track Edition, which has a curb weight of 2,480 kg, is listed with a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph).
The new Yangwang U9 retains its dimensions, maintaining a length of 4,966 mm, a width of 2,029 mm, a height of 1,311 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. It also continues to use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries supplied by BYD's battery subsidiary FinDreams Battery.
BYD's stock ticker symbols are HKG: 1211 and OTCMKTS: BYDDY. The new U9 has a single page in the catalog with the product model number QCJ7000AFBEV3 and the production address listed as BYD's Shenzhen factory.
The Yangwang U9 was initially launched on February 25, 2024, as the brand's second model. In July, Yangwang sold 339 vehicles, with a year-on-year decrease of 22.78 percent but a month-on-month increase of 65.37 percent. The U9 sold 6 units, while the U8 and U7 sold 80 and 253 units, respectively.
BYD also recently began pre-sales of the U8L luxury SUV, priced at RMB 1.3 million. The company has also announced plans to launch its high-end Yangwang brand in Europe.
