This luxury yacht, due to be unveiled in La Grande Motte this April, is poised to redefine the boundaries of green yachting.
At the heart of the MODX 70's innovation is its dual inflatable wingsail rigs, a unique feature developed by Aeroforce. These wings, supported by telescopic carbon masts, are approximately 1.7 times more efficient than standard sail rigs, dramatically enhancing performance and reducing energy consumption. The inflatable and retractable design adds versatility and ease in handling the rig under various sailing or docking conditions.
The MODX 70 is powered entirely by electric motors, fuelled by renewable energy, without any onboard fossil fuel generators or engines. This setup, coupled with its wingsail propulsion, allowed the yacht to complete a 2,000-nautical-mile journey around Spain entirely without fossil fuels, demonstrating its zero-emission capability.
The yacht's eco-conscious design extends to its construction materials. The MODX is built using 38% bio-based epoxy resin, 40% recycled PET foam, flax fiber, and cork, reducing environmental impact from manufacturing. The yacht's light displacement of 23 tonnes, combined with its advanced design, makes the MODX a highly efficient vessel.
The MODX 70 caters to various needs, available as an owner's yacht, charter, or expedition version, all with crew accommodation. The expedition version includes a 'scientific area', making it an ideal choice for research and exploration endeavours. The yacht can also harness and store 800 litres of rainwater, further enhancing its self-sustainability.
