Century Lithium Announces Production of Battery-Grade Lithium Metal Anodes from Angel Island Lithium Carbonate
Century Lithium and Alpha-En Corporation Make Strides in Domestic Lithium Supply Chain
Century Lithium Corp. (TSXV: LCE, OTCQX: CYDVF, Frankfurt: C1Z) has announced significant progress in the conversion of its lithium carbonate into battery-grade lithium-metal anodes. This achievement comes as a result of a collaboration with Alpha-En Corporation, a leading player in the field of lithium-ion battery technology.
The lithium carbonate used in the conversion process was derived from Century Lithium's wholly owned lithium project, Angel Island, located in Esmeralda County, Nevada. The conversion was carried out by Alpha-En Corporation at their facility in Hopewell Junction, New York, using their patented room-temperature process.
The high-quality lithium-metal anodes (Li-MA) produced exhibited impressive areal capacity and extraction efficiency, surpassing battery-grade lithium carbonate from commercial non-domestic sources in pilot tests. This marks a key milestone in validating the quality and competitiveness of domestically produced lithium materials.
Bill Willoughby, President and CEO of Century Lithium, expressed pride in Century Lithium being selected as a domestic source for Alpha-En's program. He stated, "We are thrilled to be working with Alpha-En Corporation to advance the development of next-generation battery technologies and strengthen the domestic battery materials supply chain, which is critical for electric vehicle and energy storage markets."
Landon Oakes, Chief Technology Officer of Alpha-En Corporation, made a statement regarding the successful conversion process, saying, "This collaboration demonstrates tangible progress in the US domestic lithium supply chain by converting locally sourced lithium carbonate into advanced lithium-metal anode materials."
Century Lithium's lithium metal, produced from Angel Island lithium carbonate, demonstrated high purity and consistency. The Angel Island project is expected to produce 34,000 tons per annum of battery-grade lithium carbonate over a 40-year projected mine life, underpinning long-term supply prospects.
Century Lithium holds a positive long-term outlook on lithium-based batteries, believing they will play a critical role in the growth of the electric vehicle and stationary energy storage markets. They are looking forward to further supporting Alpha-En's efforts to develop a domestic lithium supply chain.
The ongoing collaboration between Century Lithium and Alpha-En Corporation reflects the quality of Century Lithium's technical capabilities and underscores the potential for domestic lithium production to contribute to the development of advanced battery technologies and the growth of the electric vehicle and energy storage markets.
- This collaboration between Century Lithium and Alpha-En Corporation, two prominent players in the technology and energy sectors, marks a significant step in the development of business partnerships within the data-and-cloud-computing industry.
- The achievement of producing high-quality lithium-metal anodes at Alpha-En Corporation's facility, fueled by Century Lithium's domestically sourced lithium carbonate, could potentially reshape the finance landscape, encouraging investment in domestic lithium production and advancement of electric vehicle technology.
