Chinese automaker BYD introduces Dolphin and Seal models in Finland.
BYD, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has expanded its presence in Europe by launching the Dolphin and Seal electric vehicles in Finland. This move marks a significant step in BYD's commitment to a greener and better future.
The Dolphin and Seal models are now immediately available at BYD stores across Finland. BYD has partnered with Finnish dealer RSA for the launch, and the Mercedes dealer Veho Group is offering these models. RSA will also be expanding the BYD retail store network in Finland, with new stores opening in major cities such as Tampere, Espoo, Vantaa, Pori, Kuopio, Jyväskylä, and more.
The Dolphin, initially launched in China on August 29, 2021, and the Seal, launched on July 29, 2022, have already made their mark in various international markets. The Seal, in particular, is available in markets including Singapore, Chile, Brazil, and Japan.
In September 2022, BYD sold a record 28,039 NEVs (New Energy Vehicles) in overseas markets, with the Dolphin and Seal contributing 32,927 and 14,427 units respectively to this total. This represents a 12.05 percent increase in sales from August 2022.
Michael Shu, managing director of BYD Europe, expressed his excitement about the launch of the new BYD DOLPHIN and SEAL models. "We are thrilled to bring these innovative vehicles to Finland," he said. "They represent the future of transportation and we are committed to making this future a reality."
The Seal is positioned as a main competitor to the Tesla Model 3, offering a similar range and performance at a more affordable price point. This could potentially shake up the electric vehicle market in Finland.
BYD's entry into the Finnish market is not without controversy, however. The company is currently under investigation by the EU for anti-subsidy practices. An executive from BYD has said that they are not worried about this probe, indicating that they are confident in the fairness of their business practices.
Prior to the launch of the Dolphin and Seal, BYD had already launched the Atto 3, Han, and Tang electric vehicles to Finnish customers. The Netherlands is one of several markets that received deliveries of these models in September 2022.
As BYD continues to expand its presence in Europe, it will be interesting to see how the market responds to these new electric vehicles. With their commitment to innovation and sustainability, BYD is certainly making a strong case for itself as a major player in the electric vehicle industry.
