In a move that is set to revolutionise the browsing experience for iPhone users, Google has announced a series of updates to its Chrome browser on iOS. For the first time, the tech giant is directing its attention towards iPhone users, offering features that have long been available on Android and desktop versions of Chrome.

Starting from 2025, users of Chrome on iOS will be able to switch between personal and work profiles seamlessly, keeping all data fully separated. This separation applies to login credentials, tabs, browsing history, and saved passwords, ensuring that work and personal browsing activities remain distinct on the same device.

When users enable the profile switching system in Chrome for the first time, they will be informed about standard data retention policies for employee accounts. An on-screen notification alerts them that they are in a managed environment, and an onboarding screen explains the organization's data retention policies at first use.

One of the key features of these updates is the introduction of URL filtering for work environments. This allows organizations to block access to unauthorized websites, redirect users to approved corporate services, and reduce risks such as data exfiltration and shadow AI threats. This update aligns Chrome on iOS with the enterprise-grade browsing security features already present on Chrome for desktop and Android.

In addition to these features, Chrome Enterprise Core will allow companies to manage extensions, apps, and settings from a unified dashboard. This service is part of the enhanced features that will be available for Chrome Enterprise bundles, which include Premium and Core tiers.

The new features are expected to enhance the productivity and security of iPhone users who use Chrome for both personal and professional purposes. By enabling easy toggling between personal and work Google accounts without logging out, users can now manage both personal and work data more securely and efficiently.

Moreover, the complete separation of browsing data (tabs, history, passwords) for each profile offers a transparent and secure browsing experience. Users will now have their own separate browsing activity and saved data, including login credentials, tabs, groups, and browsing history, for each profile.

Google is also strengthening the browser safety protocols for enterprise customers by blocking employees from visiting unallowed GenAI sites at a category level and redirecting them to approved corporate services to prevent ShadowAI risks.

For iPhone users who have been waiting for such a convenience on their devices, the new features are likely to be welcomed. The updates are a significant step towards providing iOS users with a stronger boundary between personal and corporate browsing experiences, improving security and user clarity.

Technology advancements are evident in the updates announced by Google for Chrome on iOS. Starting from 2025, users will be able to switch between personal and work profiles seamlessly, ensuring a secure and separate browsing experience for each profile. Moreover, technology integration like URL filtering and managed extensions, apps, and settings via Chrome Enterprise Core will further boost the browser's security and productivity for both personal and professional users.
