Introducing the KOTAverse: A Revolutionary Microsite by KOTA Design Agency

In a bid to celebrate its 10-year milestone, the KOTA Design Agency has unveiled an innovative standalone microsite called the KOTAverse. This project, a collaborative effort between the agency's founder and team members Matt, Margo, and Nicola, is designed to be highly interactive, using cutting-edge web technology and boasting a big and bold design.

The KOTAverse is more than just a website; it's an immersive experience that invites users to delve deeper into the agency's history. Each significant moment in the agency's journey can be clicked on, offering a chance to explore more about each moment.

Margo, one of the key contributors, suggested representing the five content types that embody who KOTA is now, what they are most proud of, and what's interesting to share, by 3D shapes using the agency's brand colours. These 'elements' are referred to as such within the KOTAverse.

The fifth element, 'Our team', is considered the most important. The KOTAverse includes a section showcasing the current team, with 15 talented individuals making up the design agency.

The KOTAverse design team was inspired by the Blob Mixer, an interactive WebGL component, and the portfolio of Cyd Stumpel, a creative Web Developer based in the Netherlands. The website was developed by Cyd Stumpel, but there is no available information about her or her location.

The KOTAverse design includes an interactive visual timeline, with events orbiting around a central blob, known as the KOTAverse orb, which houses the 'Who We Are Now' section. Lenis was used for the virtual scrolling, and Greensock's GSAP library was employed for adding similar easings to the (dis)appearance of elements in the KOTAverse.

The cards that appear when users "Go deeper" in the KOTAverse were created using plain CSS 3D animations. The timeline of the KOTAverse was built using Three.js, and the KOTAverse uses a Top Trump card format for its elements, except for the 'Our team' element which is represented by 3D shapes using the agency's brand colours.

James, Creative Director at KOTA, expressed his happiness with the final outcome of the KOTAverse project. The KOTAverse is now live and accessible to the public, offering an engaging and informative journey through the agency's history and current team.
