In a move to streamline workflow and improve productivity for remote and hybrid teams, Hubstaff has unveiled a series of updates to its time tracking, productivity, and project management software.

Advanced Time Tracking Features

The desktop app now acts as a command center, allowing users to start and stop timers tied directly to specific projects or tasks, add and edit time, create projects and tasks, add notes, and mark tasks as complete—all without leaving the timer interface. Mobile apps support similar capabilities, including logging breaks. Idle detection is now customizable on desktop, with options for admins to restrict timer use to desktop or mobile only and enable automatic tracking based on preset rules. Manual time entries are flagged for transparency, and timers cannot run simultaneously on multiple devices.

Productivity and Activity Monitoring

Hubstaff provides employee activity tracking with detailed reports on time spent, app usage monitoring, and achievement badges to encourage transparency and performance. It also offers attendance and time-off management features, GPS location tracking for field teams, and auto-generated activity-based timesheets.

Integrations and API

The platform supports native integrations with project management tools like Asana, Trello, Jira, and offers Zapier support plus an open API for custom integrations. Payment and payroll integrations are a strong point, including partnerships with Gusto, Deel, PayPal, Wise, and QuickBooks—streamlining payroll for remote and deskless teams.

Security and Compliance

Hubstaff now offers robust security measures including data encryption, two-factor authentication, access controls, and audit logs across all plans. Higher-tier plans comply with HIPAA, GDPR, and SOC-2 standards, ensuring data protection and regulatory adherence.

Project and Task Management Enhancements

Users can create and manage projects and tasks directly from the timer interface on desktop and mobile, making workflow management seamless. Features also include detailed timesheets and activity logs tied to projects, allowing better oversight and productivity insights.

Other updates include adding photos to jobs, a simpler way to lock and unlock time, and seeing the current location of team members. The integrated web timer allows switching seamlessly between different time tracking methods without losing a second of tracked time.

My Stuff, a new planning view within Hubstaff Tasks, allows users to organize their day in the way that makes the most sense for them. Coming soon, My Stuff will autofill the daily Stand-up based on what's in My Stuff, keeping a record and making suggestions for what to include in recaps.

The new notification center allows users to modify notification settings to help declutter their inbox. Users can choose from a pre-set list of notifications or customize them to their liking, with options such as "Everything", "Only the essentials", "None", and "Custom".

Hubstaff Tasks also offers a clear way to see where everyone is during the workday without sending texts or making calls through exploring live and past views of the map. This feature is particularly useful for customer-facing businesses and managers who want to know who is nearby and can help out in a pinch.

The linking of Hubstaff and Hubstaff Tasks increases productivity by syncing projects and tasks, inviting teams automatically, duplicating projects, and providing reminders and a detailed page summarizing the perks.

In 2021, Hubstaff grew from 74 to 95 members, improved its benefits program, and continued its commitment to diversity, remote work, and growth. Some achievements include a 31% increase in MRR and a growth of 14% in the number of active subscriptions.

The interface and design refreshes in Hubstaff Tasks include a new sidebar, a cleaner top bar, and design updates that make the whole experience better.

Overall, Hubstaff continues to expand its capabilities for remote and hybrid teams by blending comprehensive time tracking, productivity tools, and integrations, while emphasizing user control and data security. The software remains feature-rich but may appear complex for smaller teams not requiring detailed tracking.
