Corsair's founding CEO departs after 31 years; Thi La ascends as new CEO

In a significant move for the tech industry, Thi La has taken over as CEO of Corsair, following a carefully planned succession by the company's Board. With a focus on putting customers first while accelerating growth, Thi La's vision for Corsair is set to broaden the company's horizons.

Thi La, who was previously the chief operating officer, aims to expand Corsair's product portfolio to serve both gamers and professional users more broadly. This strategy is evident in the Stream Deck's recent transformation, which has become the first Zoom Certified Personal Productivity Device. This move signals Corsair's intent to penetrate professional and hybrid workplace markets, not just gaming.

Financial strength is also a key aspect of Thi La's plans. Corsair has recently refinanced its credit facilities with Bank of America, securing $100 million revolving and $125 million term loans. This move provides financial flexibility for working capital, capital expenditures, and strategic investments, indicating the company is preparing for continued growth and investment in expanding its product portfolio and market presence.

Nick Evanson, a former physics and IT teacher and co-founder of Corsair, played a significant role in the company's early days. Evanson, who helped write the help files for 3DMark and PCMark, has a strong interest in GPUs and open world grindy RPGs. His writing career began in the late 1990s with a UK tech site, and he has since written over 100 long articles on various tech topics.

John Beekley, another co-founder, is still with Corsair, serving as the company's chief technology officer. Corsair initially produced cache modules but later switched to making DRAM modules. The company's product portfolio has expanded to include PC-related components, except for graphics cards and motherboards.

As Thi La takes the helm, he looks to the future with optimism. He mentions the NVIDIA 5000 series launch as a potential catalyst for Corsair's next phase of growth. The acquisition of Fanatec also signals a shift in focus, as Corsair continues to innovate in gaming and streaming hardware while expanding into broader productivity solutions.

With the retirement of Corsair's co-founder and CEO, Andrew Paul, Thi La now leads the company's senior management structure. Under his leadership, Corsair is poised for a new era of growth and innovation.
