Delivery services through DoorDash to be provided by Best Buy
In a significant move, DoorDash, the popular food delivery service, has extended its reach beyond restaurants, partnering with several grocery chains and food retail stores. This strategic move aims to cater to the growing demand for convenience and variety in on-demand delivery services.
Notable partners include Gelson’s, a Southern California supermarket chain known for fresh produce and gourmet prepared meals, Big Y, Gordon Food Service Store, Citarella, Northeast Grocery, Inc. (which includes Market 32, Price Chopper, and Tops Friendly Markets), and Schnucks, offering on-demand grocery delivery including SNAP/EBT payment options. With over 11 million grocery and retail products now available on the platform, DoorDash is set to redefine the delivery landscape.
Innovation is at the heart of DoorDash's strategy, as they explore drone delivery in partnership with companies like Flytrex and Wing. This venture further expands the scope of last-mile delivery logistics, moving beyond traditional restaurant delivery.
Meanwhile, another significant partnership sees DoorDash teaming up with Best Buy, marking the first national consumer electronics retailer to be available on DoorDash's marketplace. Shoppers can now have electronics, including computers, gaming controllers, headphones, TVs, and other products, delivered to their door within about an hour.
Best Buy's partnership with DoorDash comes at a crucial time, as the electronics retailer has faced three consecutive quarters of revenue and comps decline. Last week, Best Buy reported a 7.8% dip in Q3 revenue, and its operating income fell 3% and net income decreased 5% year over year in Q3. However, the holiday season presents a valuable occasion for consumers to shop for tech gifts for everyone on their list and experience the joy of shopping at Best Buy directly on the DoorDash app.
Best Buy is also partnering with the livestream shopping platform TalkShopLive to host a holiday shopping series featuring its virtual sales experts. Furthermore, Best Buy has added products from home gym company Tonal last week, further expanding its product assortment.
Best Buy isn't the only retailer DoorDash has partnered with in the past year. The food delivery service has also added major retailers such as Victoria's Secret, Lush Cosmetics, Party City, and Staples to its platform. DashPass members can also enjoy free delivery on eligible orders that meet a minimum subtotal.
Fuad Hannon, vice president of new verticals at DoorDash, commented, "This partnership provides consumers access to Best Buy's diverse selection of specialty consumer electronics with the speed and convenience of DoorDash."
Elsewhere, Sur La Table has tapped Walmart GoLocal's same-day delivery service with plans to expand nationwide this month. This move reflects DoorDash's ongoing efforts to diversify its partnerships and offer customers a wider range of products and services.
