Depop Unveils 'Outfits' Feature, Appoints Peter Semple as Permanent CEO
E-commerce giant Etsy acquired Depop in 2021 for a staggering $1.6 billion. In recent news, Peter Semple has been appointed as the permanent CEO of Depop, following his interim role since March 2023.
Depop has unveiled its latest feature, Outfits, aiming to transform the platform into a daily destination for fashion inspiration. Users can now create stylish outfit collages, adjust item sizes, and customise backgrounds. The feature also helps users find similar sold-out items and save or share their looks.
Depop's introduction of Outfits comes amidst competition from Pinterest. In 2022, Pinterest launched Shuffles, and in 2023, it integrated collages into its main app, offering similar functionality. Depop, however, differentiates itself by utilising generative AI and image recognition technology, introduced in 2022, to generate product descriptions.
Depop, under the leadership of newly appointed permanent CEO Peter Semple, continues to innovate with the launch of the Outfits feature. This move strengthens Depop's position in the competitive fashion e-commerce landscape, offering users a unique and engaging shopping experience.
