In the gaming world, the anticipation for the full launch and Steam release of the shooter simulator Escape from Tarkov is palpable. However, some players are expressing disappointment and frustration with the game's new requirement. To play Escape from Tarkov through Steam, players must purchase any edition of the game on the platform. This means that some players who already own the game will need to buy an extra Steam copy to continue playing from their existing account. This decision has sparked a wave of dissatisfaction among the game's loyal fanbase. One user, peterprank, compared the situation to repeated slaps for the loyal fanbase, while another stated that they would leave Tarkov off Steam if required to pay again. Some players have pointed to other games that were initially released off Steam and then offered Steam keys to existing players, questioning why Battlestate Games is not following a similar approach. Linking a Battlestate Games account with an active copy of the game on Steam is necessary. If a player's Battlestate Games account has a higher edition than the one purchased on Steam, the higher edition will be used. This means that players who upgrade their account on the Battlestate Games platform will not lose their upgraded status when they purchase the game on Steam. Despite the controversy, the Steam release will provide access to Steam's native features, such as achievements and friend synchronization. All users will play on the same servers, regardless of where the game was purchased. It's worth noting that Battlestate Games has no plans to support family sharing, Steam Workshop, or the Steam Deck on Tarkov. Some speculate that the developer may want a fresh start with Steam reviews, but this tactic might not improve them, given the high system requirements of the game and the controversy surrounding the new requirement. Valve recently updated Steam with user-requested features like UI scaling, which may help alleviate some of the concerns regarding the game's high system requirements. However, whether these updates will be enough to appease the frustrated player base remains to be seen. As Escape from Tarkov approaches its 1.0 full launch and Steam release, the developer, Battlestate Games, led by Nikita Buyanov, continues to push forward. The lead developer, studio head, and game designer, Buyanov also serves as the composer for the game. Despite the current controversy, the future of Escape from Tarkov on Steam is uncertain, but one thing is for sure - it will be heavily criticized on release due to its high system requirements and the current player backlash. Players will need to fully reinstall the game via Steam to access its new Steam features.
