Disable web notifications in Google Chrome for macOS:
Sounds good, peeps! Here's a step-by-step guide to shut off those pesky web notifications across different browsers and devices.
Disabling Web Notifications in Google Chrome
- Kick things off by firing up Google Chrome.
- Click the three vertical dots on the top right corner to open up the main menu.
- Choose Settings from the list.
- Scroll down to Privacy and security and click it.
- You'll see Site Settings or Content Settings. Click that puppy.
- A new screen will appear, featuring a labeled section called Notifications with a bell icon.
- Here, you can pick whether to grant websites permission to zap notifications at you or go with an option that Asks before sending (our fave!).
- On this Notifications page, you can select specific websites to either allow or block those annoying alerts.
- To block a site from sending notifications, scroll down to the Allow section at the bottom and click the three dots to the right side of the site in question. You'll find choices to Block, Edit, or Remove.
- Pick Block to prevent the site from sending you notifications and asking again in the future.
- If you'd rather change the site's name in your notifications, choose Edit. But, beware - we don't recommend it.
- Select Remove if you're unsure about completely quitting those annoying alerts. This option'll halt notifications for now, but you might be asked to subscribe again in the future.
- Since Chrome is connected to your Google account, modifying notifications on one device will usually apply to all your Chrome apps on other devices.
Need those notifications back?
- Head on back to the site you've blocked.
- You'll likely be asked if you'd like to subscribe to alerts, and you can select Allow to rejoin the party.
- Alternatively, click the lock logo to the left of the URL bar when on the site. This'll reveal a Notifications section with options to Ask (the default), Allow, or Block. You can make your choice accordingly.
Getting Rid of Notifications in Safari on Mac
- Launch Safari on your Mac machine and click on Safari from the top menu bar.
- Select Preferences from the drop-down menu.
- Click the Websites tab.
- On the left side of the screen, choose Notifications.
- You'll find a list of sites that are allowed to send notifications.
- For suspicious URLs, use the drop-down menu to change their permission to Deny.
- Want to chuck notifications altogether? Click Remove at the bottom of the window.
Remember, if you're cautious and take precautions against malware, you'll greet the web with less trepidation.

In this guide, users can also learn how to manage notifications for specific websites like smartphones or gadgets news, as the process for blocking or allowing notifications is similar. For instance, users can block a smartphone news site that frequently sends notifications in Google Chrome by following steps 9-10 mentioned earlier. Similarly, users can adjust notifications for technology-related websites in Safari on Mac by changing their permission to 'Deny' as explained in section 'Getting Rid of Notifications in Safari on Mac'.
