Discover Latin America's Gargantuan Outdoor Art Exhibit Assembled Entirely in the Digital Realm
In the heart of São Paulo, Brazil, the SESI Digital Gallery, Latin America's largest open-air digital art gallery, has undergone a remarkable transformation thanks to an extensive technological overhaul by ON, an international audiovisual technology company.
The renovation, which took place within the FIESP building on Avenida Paulista, has significantly improved the gallery's display capabilities. The resolution has increased from 221 × 170 dots to 480 × 322 dots, representing more than a fourfold increase in pixel count. This enhancement results in sharper, more detailed visuals for the audience.
Brightness was another area that received a dramatic boost. The new system raises maximum brightness from 45 cd/m² to 471 cd/m², more than 10 times brighter than before. This improvement ensures that the gallery's displays can be seen clearly, even in the brightest daylight.
Moreover, colour reproduction has expanded from 68 billion to over 281 trillion possibilities with the new system, offering a much broader colour range.
The technological overhaul involved replacing 26,000 LED dots with over 120,000 newly engineered units. The installation of the new LED dots was a complex process requiring architectural precision due to the gallery's unique trapezoidal geometry.
ON also developed a custom pixel mapping system tailored to the unique contours of the FIESP building. This system generates an intuitive pixel map compatible with standard visual design software, making it easier for artists to create and preview their content without needing deep technical knowledge.
Each control box now understands its exact starting point, enabling pixel-perfect alignment with the architecture. This feature ensures that the content displayed is seamlessly integrated with the building's design.
Traditional video mapping methods were incompatible with the SESI Digital Gallery's trapezoidal geometry, making ON's custom solution a game-changer.
The renovated SESI Digital Gallery is now a programmable, artist-friendly canvas that meets the standards of the future. Rodrigues, a local art enthusiast, concluded that the project reaffirms São Paulo's role as a global capital of urban creativity.
With its improved display capabilities, the SESI Digital Gallery continues to showcase a wide range of digital artworks, reflecting São Paulo’s urban creativity and technological precision.
In this transformed SESI Digital Gallery, the new visual communication installations, engineered by ON, now feature a much higher resolution of 480 × 322 dots for sharper, more detailed visuals. Additionally, the technology has revolutionized the color reproduction with over 281 trillion possibilities, providing an extended range of vibrant colors.
