A new drone reel, shot entirely on the DJI Mini 5 Pro, has been released by Denis Barbas. Meanwhile, a US federal court has ruled against DJI's attempts to remove the company from a Pentagon blacklist. The ruling comes as searches for drone photography surge and DJI faces supply issues leading to scams.

The cinematic drone reel, showcasing the DJI Mini 5 Pro's enhanced dynamic range, stabilization, and low-light performance in challenging conditions, has garnered attention. The drone, praised for its compact size and high-end features, has seen increased demand, leading to dwindling supplies.

In a setback for DJI, a federal judge ruled against the company's lawsuit. The judge, Paul Friedman, determined that DJI should remain on the Pentagon's list of companies allegedly linked to the Chinese military. This restriction limits DJI's access to US government contracts and partnerships. The court acknowledged DJI's dual-use potential and recognized the company as a leading technology innovator by the Chinese government.

In the face of supply shortages, fraudsters have exploited the situation. They've set up fake online shops and social media listings, advertising popular DJI models at below-retail prices. Desperate buyers, unable to find genuine products, have fallen victim to these scams.

The increased demand for drone photography, as evidenced by a 122% jump in searches in August 2025 compared to the previous year, has further exacerbated the supply issue. Meanwhile, Uber has invested in Flytrex, integrating its FAA-authorized BVLOS drones with Uber Eats' logistics platform for drone delivery.

Despite the supply issues and legal setbacks, interest in drone photography continues to grow. DJI, while facing restrictions in the US, remains a leading innovator in the drone industry. As demand outstrips supply, consumers must be vigilant against scams. The integration of drone delivery into platforms like Uber Eats signals a growing acceptance and use of drones in everyday life.
