Drawing Six Cards in the Pokémon Trading Card Game (Pocket) Explained

In an exciting development for Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) Pocket players, a major update is on the horizon. The update, which does not explicitly mention changes to the number of cards pulled per pack, focuses on enhancing the card collection and trading experience [1][2][3][4][5].

One of the most notable additions is the removal of the Trade Token system, replacing it with shinedust earned by duplicates. This change aims to facilitate easier card acquisition. Furthermore, the update introduces new trading options, such as sharing wishlists, and the ability to trade cards of higher rarity, which could potentially help players obtain specific cards, such as baby Pokémon, more efficiently.

However, there is no official confirmation that the number of cards pulled per pack will increase from five to six. Consequently, the chances of pulling six cards instead of five remain unchanged. The main implications for obtaining baby Pokémon cards are related more to trade accessibility and collection enhancements rather than changes in pack pull mechanics.

The update also introduces the Wisdom of Sea and Sky packs, each offering a unique set of Pokémon. Ho-Oh and Lugia, the respective legendaries of Pokémon Gold and Silver, appear as card art in these packs. Interestingly, each pack offers a different set of baby Pokémon: the Ho-Oh set includes Magby, Smoochum, and Tyrogue, while the Lugia set offers Pichi, Elekid, and Cleffa.

So far, it seems like the six-card draws are the only way to organically obtain a baby Pokémon, excluding Togepi. When a sixth card is pulled, it often contains a baby Pokémon like Pichu, Cleffa, or Elekid. The chance to draw a baby Pokémon as a sixth card is close to 1%, while the chance of pulling a sixth card out of a normal pack is approximately 8.33%.

It's worth noting that the baby Pokémon cards have the potential for a free ability and cannot currently evolve into higher-stage Pokémon. The animation for a six-card draw has a slight difference compared to the regular animation, hinting at this new feature.

In addition to these changes, players can exchange 100 Trade Tokens for 1,000 Shinedust, and obtain 60 Pack Hourglasses by exchanging 60,000 Trade Tokens. The launch of Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Pokémon Champions is upcoming, adding to the excitement for Pokémon TCG Pocket players.

This update seems to offer a slightly higher chance to pull better cards compared to earlier sets, making it an exciting time for collectors and traders alike. While the changes to the pack draw mechanics may not be drastic, the enhancements to the trading and collection aspects of the game are sure to make a significant impact.
