Drone Delivery Expansion: DoorDash Announces Round-the-Clock Service in Dallas-Fort Worth

Suburban areas are seeing a surge in drone delivery services, as companies like DoorDash, Flytrex, Wing, and Coco Robotics focus on improving last-mile logistics with fast, contactless delivery.

DoorDash and Wing Expanding Services

DoorDash, in partnership with Wing, has scaled up drone delivery in several suburban U.S. markets such as Frisco, Fort Worth, Plano (Texas), rural Virginia, Dallas, and Charlotte. The expansion targets high-growth suburban areas, extending beyond traditional mall locations, and addresses delivery challenges by improving speed, freshness, and customer convenience. Delivery times are now measured in minutes rather than the typical 30+ minutes. DoorDash’s partnership with GoTo Foods, which owns brands like Auntie Anne’s and Jamba, leverages Wing’s drone technology to enable quick food deliveries directly to customers’ doors.

Flytrex Partnership with DoorDash

Flytrex, an Israeli drone company, has partnered with DoorDash to launch household drone deliveries in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Flytrex drones can carry as much as 6.6 pounds, the largest amount in the area, and the service currently reaches more than 30,000 households and 100,000-plus residents. This is Flytrex's first third-party app integration, allowing customers to place orders directly through the DoorDash app. Orders are prepared at restaurants and flown to customers' homes by Flytrex’s autonomous drone fleet.

Walmart and Wing's Expansion

Walmart has expanded its drone delivery capability in 5 major cities in partnership with Wing. Walmart and Wing are expanding drone delivery from select stores in the Dallas area to new markets like Atlanta, expecting to cover 100 stores by next summer.

Coco Robotics' Expansion

Coco Robotics, though less prominently featured in recent U.S. expansion news, is among the drone delivery partners in the broader industry pushing towards commercial drone uses in multiple service types — often emphasizing autonomous, contactless delivery in suburban or less dense areas. Details of their latest suburban expansion are less reported but typically align with the overall industry growth trend.

Regulatory Progress

Regulatory progress by the FAA towards easing rules on beyond-visual-line-of-sight (BVLOS) drone operations is accelerating this suburban expansion. The FAA’s proposed new rules will facilitate longer-distance drone flights, allowing companies to scale deliveries beyond pilot programs that currently require waivers.

In summary, these partners are focusing on expanding suburban delivery footprints beyond traditional urban cores and malls, keeping deliveries fast to maintain food quality and convenience, leveraging better regulatory conditions to scale autonomous drone operations, targeting markets with higher delivery costs and longer times for traditional couriers, primarily suburban and rural areas, and building integrated logistics platforms to support partner brands and consumer expectations for immediacy. This trend reflects a planetary alignment of technological readiness, partner demand, customer interest, and regulatory easing—making 2025 a breakthrough year for suburban drone delivery expansion in the U.S.
