Flight Operations Resume in Munich After Drone Sightings - Drone Disruption at Munich Airport: 17 Flights Canceled, 3000 Passengers Affected
Munich Airport experienced a significant disruption on the night of July 17 due to drone sightings. Despite thorough investigations, no culprit was identified. The incident resulted in the cancellation of 17 flights, impacting nearly 3000 passengers.
Drone sightings were reported around 21:30 and again at 22:30, leading to a temporary shutdown of flight operations. Air and ground searches by federal police found no evidence of the drone(s), and the type and number involved remained unknown. Consequently, 15 incoming flights were diverted to nearby airports in Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Vienna, and Frankfurt. Passengers were rebooked, and flights will be made up on Friday to minimize further disruption.
Munich Airport resumed operations after the drone incident. However, 17 flights could not depart, causing inconvenience to nearly 3000 passengers. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, but no culprit has been identified as of now.
