Economical Motorcycles by Norton, in Production, Manufactured by TVS
In an exciting development for the Indian motorcycle market, TVS Motor Company, the Indian two-wheeler giant, is set to make the iconic British brand Norton's India debut by late 2025. The company is planning to take on the market leader, Royal Enfield, which currently holds a 90% share, by employing the same strategy as Triumph and BSA.
The initial launch will consist of a premium range of Norton bikes, offering a single-cylinder and a twin-cylinder platform. The new Norton motorcycles will feature a 400-450 cc single-cylinder engine and a 600-650 cc twin-cylinder platform. This move is intended to make TVS's investment in the revival of the Norton brand profitable.
The Norton 400-450 cc bike is expected to go on sale in 2026, with the Norton 600-650 cc bike following suit in 2027. Both models will be more affordable than the current Norton motorcycles, which are priced close to ₹20 lakh for the Norton Commando 961 range and almost ₹50 lakh for the Norton V4SV and V4CR motorcycles.
To keep the pricing competitive, these new Norton motorcycles will be manufactured in India. This move is a strategic one, as TVS leverages its manufacturing expertise, acquired through its long-standing presence in the Indian market.
The competition between the new Norton bikes and the Royal Enfield range is yet to be determined. However, for bikers, the expansion of the retro roadster segment with the new Norton bikes is good news. The new offerings are expected to challenge brands such as Royal Enfield and Triumph, offering a fresh choice in the market.
Last year, it was predicted that Norton was developing a new range of single-cylinder motorcycles. This prediction has now come to fruition, and the company is set to make a significant impact on the Indian motorcycle market. The Ronin 225, a previous offering from TVS, has been overshadowed by the Royal Enfield Hunter 350. With the new Norton motorcycles, TVS aims to change this narrative and establish a strong presence in the premium motorcycle segment.
In conclusion, the launch of the new Norton motorcycles is an exciting development for the Indian motorcycle market. With their affordable pricing, competitive manufacturing, and strategic positioning, these new models are poised to challenge the market leader, Royal Enfield, and offer a fresh choice for bikers in the retro roadster segment. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development.
