Electric innovations from Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz grab the spotlight during IAA Mobility, aiming to outshine competitors.

The automotive industry is gearing up for an electric revolution, and the IAA Mobility 2025 event saw several key players unveiling their latest electric vehicles (EVs). Among the newcomers is the Skoda Epiq, the first model to fully adopt Skoda’s Modern Solid design philosophy.

Skoda Epiq electric SUV is based on the MEB Entry architecture and will be positioned below the 4.4-meter-long Elroq. The vehicle is expected to come in a front-wheel-drive configuration and will have two battery sizes available: 38 kWh and 56 kWh. Skoda Epiq electric SUV is part of Volkswagen AG's approach to bring affordable electric cars to the market.

While the Skoda Epiq is scheduled to make its world premiere with production starting in mid-2026, there are currently no plans to bring the Skoda Epiq to India. Skoda is focusing on developing electric vehicles specifically made for the Indian market, with local production planned using the CMP21 platform.

Another electric vehicle showcased by Skoda at the IAA Mobility 2025 was the Skoda Kylaq, the brand's most affordable electric car. Details about the Skoda Kylaq's specifications and features were not provided.

Volkswagen also showcased the Volkswagen ID. Cross concept, an electric compact SUV that is a part of Volkswagen's focus on affordable electric mobility with premium features and technology. The Volkswagen ID. Cross concept is underpinned by MEB+ architecture and features a front-wheel-drive (FWD) system. The powertrain of the Volkswagen ID. Cross concept is capable of producing 207 bhp peak power, and it promises an electric range of up to 420 km and a top speed of 175 kmph.

Mercedes-Benz also made a splash at the IAA Mobility 2025 with the unveiling of the all-new GLC EV with EQ Technology. The Mercedes-Benz GLC EV promises up to 713 km range on a single charge, making it a formidable competitor in the electric SUV market.

It's worth noting that some of the models showcased at the IAA Mobility 2025, including the Volkswagen ID. Cross and Skoda Epiq, are expected to come to the Indian market. As the demand for electric vehicles continues to grow, it's an exciting time for consumers looking for more eco-friendly transportation options.
