"Electric vehicle concepts from Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz take center stage, aiming to outshine others at the IAA Mobility event"
Skoda has unveiled its first fully electric SUV, the Epiq, at the IAA Mobility 2025. The Epiq, which fully embraces Skoda's Modern Solid design philosophy, is set to premiere in mid-2026.
The Epiq is based on the MEB Entry architecture, and, like its counterpart, the Volkswagen ID. Cross, is expected to come in a front-wheel-drive configuration. Skoda has confirmed that the Epiq will boast of V2V and V2L charging capabilities.
Details about the Epiq's specifications, range, and expected market launch are yet to be disclosed. However, it is known that the Epiq will come in two battery sizes: 38 kWh and 56 kWh. The Epiq is positioned below the 4.4-meter-long Elroq, suggesting a more compact design.
Mercedes-Benz also made a splash at the event with the unveiling of the all-new GLC EV with EQ Technology. The GLC EV promises an impressive range of up to 713 km on a single charge, making it one of the most promising long-range electric SUVs in the market.
The Volkswagen ID. Cross, another concept electric compact SUV showcased at the event, promises a range of up to 420 km and a top speed of 175 kmph. The powertrain of the ID. Cross is capable of producing 207 bhp peak power.
In addition to these new electric vehicles, Skoda also showcased its most affordable electric car, the Skoda Kylaq, at the IAA Mobility 2025. It is expected that some of the models showcased at the event, including the Volkswagen ID. Cross and Skoda Epiq, will come to the Indian market.
The IAA Mobility 2025 marks a significant step forward in the electric vehicle industry, with automakers showcasing their latest and most innovative electric vehicles. The event underscores the growing importance of electric vehicles in the automotive industry and the commitment of automakers to bring affordable and efficient electric cars to the masses.
