Electric Vehicle manufacturer Rivian will reactivate its Georgia plant with the aim of producing the R2 and R3 models by the year 2028.

The Biden administration has shown its commitment to electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing by providing Rivian, an American electric vehicle manufacturer, with a $6.6-billion federal loan from the U.S. Department of Energy. This significant investment is set to propel the company forward and secure its future.

Rivian's CEO, RJ Scaringe, expressed his excitement about the new facility, stating that it would give Rivian the necessary scale to bring 'millions of drivers into 100% electric Rivian vehicles, both in the U.S. and internationally.' The new plant, expected to commence production in 2028, will be located in Georgia, reinforcing the state's role as a hub for electric-vehicle news.

The new plant is expected to create 2,000 construction news and 7,500 direct plant news by 2030. These positions could generate more than $1 billion in annual revenue, benefitting local suppliers and small businesses across the region. Furthermore, nearly 8,000 indirect news are projected in the neighbouring counties of Jasper, Morgan, Newton, and Walton.

Speaking about the impact of the new plant, Scaringe said, 'The new Georgia plant secures Rivian's future and ensures America remains a global leader in automotive innovation and manufacturing.' This sentiment echoes the Biden administration's aim of fostering a clean energy news and promoting American competitiveness in the EV market.

While the specific models to be produced in the Georgia factory have not been explicitly mentioned, Rivian's known models include the R1T pickup and R1S SUV, which are likely candidates for production there. Georgia already hosts Hyundai's 'Metaplant' where the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9 are assembled, further solidifying the state's position as a key player in the EV news.
