Electrically-Powered DS No 4 Makes Its Debut

Gossip with me mientras hablamos acerca de los autos.

The DS N°4 is no longer just a compact car. It's DS Automobiles' latest offering, and it's all electric, baby! Let's dive in and see what this baby's got under the hood.

DS Automobiles prides itself on being the high-end couture of the auto world. Think French design, chic, and fashionable sensuality. While it may not be Bugatti, it's got its own flair, with their unique decorations and luxurious materials like Nappa leather joining the trend every now and then. The interiors are stylish, but with cost-conscious limitations within the Stellantis group.

The version we're looking at here is a facelifted one. It boasts a front face with a slightly developed mask that houses a prominent illuminated DS logo. The seats? Comfortable as hell. But, they're hidden under the hood, so you'll have to take my word on that one.

Electric Motor, More Powerful Than Ever

Clearly, the diesel is out of the picture. The entry-level model comes in at 38,640 euros, and it's been hybridized with a system output of 107 kW/145 PS. The powertrain consists of a 100 kW/136 PS strong 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine that's been teamed up with a 21 kW electric motor. This powertrain isn't entirely unknown within the group; you might recognize it from other models.

The plug-in hybrid remains available, but with a few notable changes. Its system output remains at 165 kW/225 PS, with a 1.6-litre four-cylinder offering 132 kW/180 PS. But, the electric motor now boasts an increased power of 92 kW/125 PS compared to previous models, which should make a noticeable difference in electric driving. The eight-speed automatic transmission has been replaced by a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission for a smoother ride. Engineers have also worked on the battery, with its net capacity now standing at 14.6 kWh, enabling the 1.7-tonner to drive up to 77 kilometers in the averaged WLTP cycle.

Eyeing the Electric Version

The newcomer adopts the trend of large letters on the trunk lid. But, the real star of the show is the all-electric version. While it isn't a battery swap from the Citroën ë-C4 or Peugeot 308, it does come with a new battery capacity stage with 58.3 kWh. It also boasts an increased charging power from 100 kW to 120 kW. We'll see how well the 156 kW/213 PS electric motor actually charges once it's put to the test. The data sheet remains vague for now, but the general consensus is that it charges quite speedily.

Both the BEV and PHEV are no bargains, with prices starting at 45,900 euros. But, due to more favorable tax laws, especially for company car drivers (who are abundant in this part of the world), both models may prove to be more cost-effective in the long run. The newcomer has enough volume under the hood, with 390 liters, to accommodate a family vacation.

So, there you have it. DS Automobiles' little N°4 is growing up. It's time for electric dreams and high-fashion sensibilities on the road. Vive la N°4!
