Enabling Swift Emergency Response: Insight into Brunswick County's 911 Operations

In a significant move to bolster its emergency services, the Brunswick County Sheriff's 911 Communications Center has upgraded its Audio-Visual (AV) system with Extron's NAV AV over IP, XTP, and control systems. This innovative technology, renowned for its reliability, scalability, and manageability, is essential for the efficient and effective management of emergency services.

Extron's AV over IP systems offer scalable and flexible distribution of audio and video signals over standard IP networks. Leveraging advanced networking protocols, these systems maintain low latency and high-quality transmission critical for real-time operations. The high-performance, matrix switching architecture of Extron's XTP Systems provides ultra-low latency and high reliability, designed for continuous operation environments.

Meanwhile, Extron's control systems enable centralized and automated management of complex AV deployments. Features include automated device discovery and configuration, simplifying setup and reducing downtime during maintenance or upgrades. Together, these systems deliver reliability and uptime essential for 24/7/365 mission-critical environments like 911 command centers, ensuring continuous AV system operation without interruption.

The new systems also offer scalability to accommodate future growth and changes in technology or operational needs, allowing easy addition of sources, displays, or endpoints. Additionally, the low latency and high-quality AV transmission are critical for real-time decision making. Simplified installation and management are achieved through integrated control and automation, minimizing labor and potential for human error during configuration.

The Extron XTP II CrossPoint 3200 32x32 modular matrix switcher is used for high-performance switching and local distribution of 4K/60 HDMI and stereo audio signals. Rack-mounted computers, the CCOM system, and Apple TVs are connected directly to the matrix switcher over HDMI. DTP transmitters and receivers facilitate signal extension within the call center.

An Extron NAV system links 911 call center resources with the conference room and backup emergency operations center (EOC). In the conference room, XTP transmitters and scaling receivers provide signal extension from connected devices to the room's displays. NAV 1G encoders link the conference room PC, network switches, and digital signage system to the XTP II CrossPoint matrix switcher.

The matrix switcher routes source signals and camera feeds to the videowall and among the workstation consoles. Extron TouchLink Pro touchpanels installed throughout the facility work in conjunction with IPCP Pro Q xi control processors to provide flexible AV system control. The NAVigator Pro AV over IP System Manager allows for monitoring, management, backup, and recovery of all NAV endpoints. They are connected to the server room's IP Link Pro xi control processor over the NAV system.

Chris Jordan, VP of operations at North Carolina Sound, highlighted the reasons for choosing Extron components. He praised their proven performance, product quality, variety, integrated technologies, and previous experience with their equipment and service.

With the new XTP and NAV systems, 911 operators are now empowered to help protect the public and save lives throughout Brunswick County. Personnel at the Brunswick County Sheriff's 911 Communications Center are using the Extron products to compile information, assign resources, and manage emergency services at top speed and with complete confidence.
