Enhancements sought by players are unveiled in the latest iteration of Nano Cortex by Neural DSP
The latest update for the Nano Cortex, a smaller and budget-friendly version of the Quad Cortex, brings a series of new features and improvements that focus on usability, tempo control precision, and MIDI integration.
Neural DSP, the company behind the Nano Cortex, has announced the release of the NanOS 2.1.0 update. This update introduces tap tempo controls, allowing players to set and control tempo both directly on the pedal and via the Cortex Cloud app.
On the pedal, players can access Tap Tempo mode by holding Footswitch I, whose LED blinks at the current tempo. To set the tempo, players simply need to press Footswitch I repeatedly and exit Tap Tempo mode with Footswitch II. The LED flashes blue when receiving an incoming MIDI clock.
The update also brings several enhancements to the Cortex Cloud app. The tempo menu now features a tap pad for tapping tempo, precise BPM number entry, and options to select between global or preset-specific tempos. It also allows choosing external MIDI clock sources (USB MIDI or TRS MIDI).
In addition to tap tempo controls, the update includes other notable improvements. The pedal can now receive MIDI Control Change messages to bypass individual device slots, control expression pedal position, tap tempo, and toggle the tuner on/off. Users can independently bypass the Impulse Response loader on a specific output channel, and MIDI Thru is another addition. Controls for USB playback volume, muting input/output for re-amping workflows, and maintaining reverb/delay trails when bypassing (if 4-preset mode is off) are also included.
These enhancements aim to make the Nano Cortex more versatile and performance-ready. The update also fixes some bugs and enhances performance overall.
The Nano Cortex continues to challenge Kemper and TONEX in the market, offering a competitive alternative for musicians seeking a more compact and affordable amp modeler. With the NanOS 2.1.0 update, the Nano Cortex solidifies its position in a competitive market of smaller-sized amp modelers.
