Enhancing Healthcare Communication via Modern Display Techniques

In a significant move towards improving rural healthcare communication, ARcare, a network of federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), has adopted the Carousel Cloud software for digital signage. This shift has brought about numerous benefits, including easy remote content management, enhanced patient communication, and operational efficiency through cloud accessibility.

Being a cloud-based digital signage platform, Carousel Cloud allows healthcare staff at rural or dispersed locations to remotely create, schedule, and update visual content from anywhere with internet access. This reduces the need for on-site technical support and ensures timely messaging across multiple facilities.

For FQHCs, which often serve diverse patient populations with varying health literacy and language needs, Carousel Cloud can help deliver customized health education, appointment reminders, and key policy updates visually and in real-time, improving patient engagement and health outcomes.

The cloud infrastructure ensures scalability and rapid deployment without heavy upfront IT investment, ideal for resource-constrained rural clinics. It also supports integration with other healthcare communication systems, offering seamless information flow.

Digital signage powered by Carousel Cloud can also enhance the waiting room experience and reduce perceived wait times by displaying relevant health content, community news, or directions. This is particularly beneficial in rural clinics where patient volumes may fluctuate.

While specific peer-reviewed studies on Carousel Cloud in FQHCs were not found, the general advantages of cloud-based digital signage — including remote management, real-time updates, improved communication, cost-effectiveness, and patient engagement — apply strongly to the rural healthcare context and federally qualified health centers.

ARcare's digital signage strategy includes a dynamic mix of long and short-form video, graphics, and text. As of this summer, Carousel Cloud is live in most of ARcare's locations, with additional facilities opening in Arkansas and Mississippi by the end of the year, extending to 87 out of 100 healthcare facilities across Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

Justin Johnson, principal for Think Idea Studio and ARcare's lead marketing strategist, stated that Carousel Cloud provides an effective way to visually communicate need-to-know information. ARcare's digital signage content includes information about grant-funded initiatives such as cancer awareness, as well as content specific to ARcare services, including medical services, retail pharmacies, transportation to appointments, and a home-delivery pharmacy.

ARcare's FQHC status ensures that all residents in rural communities can receive quality healthcare with or without insurance. The digital signage network consists of 14 Carousel channels, one for each geographical region where ARcare has a healthcare presence. ARcare plans to bring in local content from public schools and other organizations that serve rural communities alongside ARcare.

Jamie Mobley, chief experience officer for ARcare, implemented Carousel Cloud across their healthcare network within months, starting from a small test on two screens in their administrative building. Carousel Cloud allows ARcare to bring engaging content to their patients, such as interviews with healthcare providers on topics like diabetes.

In conclusion, ARcare's adoption of Carousel Cloud digital signage has brought about a significant improvement in rural healthcare communication, providing an effective way to deliver healthcare information, educate patients, and enhance the waiting room experience.
