ESI Group Celebrates Half a Century of Proficiency in Digital Twinning Technologies
ESI Group: A Global Leader in Industrial Virtual Prototyping since 1973
French software company ESI Group began as a consulting firm before shifting its focus to simulation software in the late '70s. Fast-forward to the 2010s, and the company has pivoted yet again, this time towards virtual reality (VR). With more than five decades of experience under its belt, ESI Group is now one of the world's leading providers of industrial virtual prototyping solutions. They will be showcasing their latest offerings at our website from April 10-12, 2024, on booth B11.
Romeo Sanches, Technical Manager at ESI Group, shares insights about the company's upcoming demonstration. "ESI will be unveiling the latest features of its IC.IDO solution," he says. The new approach highlights human-centered processes in a collaborative, co-located virtual environment, making it easy to run complex scenarios. Participants will have the option of controlling the session from a tablet, and a system enabling three participants to simultaneously experience a design review in XR (Meta Quest 3 pass-through mode) will also be presented.
As for current projects, ESI Group is working diligently to improve the fidelity of IC.IDO's virtual simulation by better replicating real material behaviors during assembly and disassembly. They also aim to integrate data from Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions to further embed virtual reality digital prototyping in their customers' decision-making processes. The development of IC.IDO Colab continues, with the goal of creating an even more collaborative and user-friendly experience.
Regarding the impact of immersive technologies on the world of tomorrow, Sanches states, "Our vision with IC.IDO is to help our customers ensure that their future products or production tools are designed for the comfort and safety of the human beings who will be using them." He further asserts that immersive technologies will enable the consideration of unpredictable human behaviors within the predictive modeling of digital twins, making decision-making more human-centric and, in turn, potentially leading to a more sustainable world.
Looking back on the evolution of VR and augmented reality (AR), Sanches acknowledges that identifying a single transformative innovation would be challenging, given the various technological advancements over time. Still, he suggests that the advent of multi-functional headsets, which allow both VR and AR, has played a significant role in democratizing XR and broadening its range of applications.
In conclusion, ESI Group's IC.IDO solution is at the forefront of the industrial VR and XR industry, offering advanced features for creating virtual workspaces, enhancing collaboration, and integrating product experiences in 3D immersive environments. With a strong commitment to innovation, ESI Group continues to refine its offerings and push the boundaries of industrial virtual prototyping.
