Exemplary Transformations within the Car Industry
Baden-Württemberg, a German state renowned for its flourishing automotive company, is embracing change and sustainability with the support of the "Zukunftsfonds für die Automobilindustrie" by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. This fund focuses on innovation and sustainability, promoting electric mobility, digitalization, and climate-neutral production.
Several transformation networks can be identified in Baden-Württemberg, thanks to regional automotive company collaborations. One such network is the Cluster Automotive Region Stuttgart 2.0, while TraFoNetz North Black Forest, TRANSFORMOTIVE Network, TIM Transformation network, AUToS Network, and Zukunft Ostwürttemberg Transformation Network are set to be funded by the end of 2025.
A crucial player in this transformation is the Guidance Center, based at e-mobil BW. The Guidance Center collaborates with over 40 partners to provide qualification, networking, and knowledge transfer services to companies. They engage in individual guidance conversations with companies, explaining relevant developments, trends, and suitable funding opportunities.
The Guidance Center also supports the regional transformation networks for the automotive industry in Baden-Württemberg, creating synergies. One such example is the Scale-up E-Drive, a nationwide active transformation hub, which is coordinated from Baden-Württemberg by e-mobil BW and specifically supports small and medium-sized enterprises active in the electrical powertrain.
Two companies, WAFIOS AG and Innomotics, are demonstrating their transformational capability and successfully mastering the structural change in the sector. WAFIOS AG's new E-Mobility Campus houses the entire e-mobility area of the company, from development to commissioning of the machines. Innomotics, a pioneer in the areas of industrial efficiency, electrification, sustainability, and digitization, is another testament to the industry's evolution.
Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, the Economics and Labor Minister, recently visited companies in Reutlingen and Tübingen to observe the transformation of the automotive industry. The state has invested over 400 million euros since 2017 in support of companies undergoing transformation, with the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWE) funding the establishment of regional transformation networks with different focuses in the automotive industry.
The state also supports measures and offers to help the work of the transformation networks. Examples include the Consulting Voucher "Transformation of the Automotive Industry" and the Free and Open Source Software Consulting Voucher. Thematic events and the publication of thematic short studies contribute to knowledge building and transfer in the industry.
For more information, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor and Tourism can be contacted via their Press Office or Citizen's Representative. The future of Baden-Württemberg's automotive sector is undeniably exciting, as it continues to innovate and adapt to the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.
