ExxonMobil Secures Major BECCS CO2 Transport Deal with AtmosClear, Supporting Microsoft's Carbon Removal Goals

ExxonMobil has secured a significant contract to transport and store biogenic CO2 for AtmosClear's BECCS facility in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This deal, partially guaranteed by ExxonMobil, supports Microsoft 365's purchase of carbon removal credits and marks one of the largest BECCS commitments in the U.S.

AtmosClear selected ExxonMobil for its robust safety culture and operational track record. The contract involves the transportation and permanent storage of up to 680,000 metric tons of biogenic CO2 annually, supporting Microsoft 365's carbon removal credit purchases in the voluntary CDR market.

ExxonMobil's existing infrastructure, including Class VI injection wells and pipelines, played a crucial role in the selection. This project expands ExxonMobil's leadership in large-scale carbon storage and supports the local economy. It is the fifth addition to ExxonMobil's carbon capture and storage portfolio in Louisiana, further cementing the state as a hub for such projects.

ExxonMobil will transport and store 680,000 tonnes of CO2 per year from AtmosClear's Baton Rouge BECCS facility, contributing to Microsoft 365's growing demand for carbon removal solutions. The deal feeds into an expanding market for carbon dioxide removal credits, with AtmosClear's credits expected to be sold to industrial and technology buyers.
