Fast-Charging Stations Expand in Ingolstadt, Germany
Ingolstadt, Germany, is witnessing an expansion of fast-charging electric vehicle (EV) stations, thanks to a partnership between EDEKA Fanderl and Stadtwerke Ingolstadt.
On July 29, 2025, two EDEKA Fanderl supermarkets in Gerolfing and Kothau welcomed the installation of fast-charging stations with a capacity of up to 150 kW. These high-capacity chargers, designed for EVs, aim to provide convenient and efficient charging options for customers and residents.
The new fast-charging stations join the existing network managed by Stadtwerke Ingolstadt, which now boasts over 100 charging points in Ingolstadt and its surrounding region. Examples of these fast-charging stations can be found at the Audi roundabout, incampus, the innovation area of the Audi AG, or in the Harderstraße.
These fast-charging stations offer a significant speed advantage over conventional charging stations, which typically offer a maximum of 22 kW. During an average shopping trip, these charging stations can supply enough power to the vehicle's batteries to continue the journey with sufficient range.
Matthias Bolle, SWI business manager, states that the fast-charging stations are ideal for a 20 to 30-minute shopping trip, allowing up to 80 percent charge (depending on the vehicle). Customers of Stadtwerke's green electricity tariffs receive the most favorable charging prices.
The cooperation between EDEKA Fanderl and Stadtwerke Ingolstadt emphasizes regionality, sustainability, and service - values important to both parties as family businesses. Sabine Fanderl, managing director of EDEKA Fanderl, expresses pleasure at working with Stadtwerke Ingolstadt, aiming to offer customers a convenient and efficient electric car charging experience during shopping trips.
Charging at these stations can be done with the SWI charging card or the Stadtwerke app SWI e-motion, but also with other charging cards. The installation of these charging stations is part of six sites belonging to the traditional Ingolstadt family business.
The fast-charging stations are now available for use at the EDEKA Fanderl supermarkets in Gerolfing and Kothau, reducing wait times for EV drivers visiting or passing through these areas and supporting the transition to cleaner mobility.
The partnership between EDEKA Fanderl and Stadtwerke Ingolstadt has introduced fast-charging stations, revolutionizing environmental-science and technology in the city. With the installation of 150 kW chargers in supermarkets, customers can now engage in science-driven shopping trips while charging their electric vehicles efficiently.
