FIP Demands DGCA Inspect Boeing 787 Electrical Systems After Air India Incident

The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has recently requested the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to inspect the electrical systems of all Boeing 787 aircraft operating in India. This follows an incident involving an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner on October 4, 2025, where the Ram Air Turbine (RAT) deployed unexpectedly during the final approach, forcing the aircraft to land in the UK. The FIP believes this incident highlights potential systemic electrical vulnerabilities in Boeing 787 aircraft and has called for thorough checks of all B787 aircraft in the country. The exact date of the last inspection of the electrical systems by the DGCA is not publicly known. The request was submitted on October 5, 2025. The incident occurred when the Aircraft Health Monitoring (AHM) system detected a fault in the Bus Power Control Unit (BPCU), a critical component that manages an aircraft's electrical power distribution. The RAT deployed automatically at approximately 500 feet during descent, but the aircraft landed safely with all onboard systems functioning normally. The FIP's request aims to ensure the safety of passengers and crew by addressing any potential electrical issues in Boeing 787 aircraft operating in India. The DGCA is yet to announce its response or the timeline for the inspections.
