Deutsche Aircraft has commenced construction on a final assembly line for its D328 Eco regional aircraft at Leipzig/Halle Airport, according to a recent announcement. The construction project, spanning an area equivalent to eight football fields, is expected to be completed by year-end 2025, with assembly to begin in 2026. The first aircraft delivery is planned for 2027. The investment sums to approximately 100 million euros, as disclosed by the company.

The D328 Eco marks a more eco-friendly evolution of the Dornier 328, which was first produced in the early 1990s. Nico Neumann, Co-CEO of Deutsche Aircraft, noted, "We are reviving the development of a German-based regional aircraft that embraces the Dornier's DNA."

The new assembly facility is anticipated to generate up to 350 jobs in the region and produce up to 48 aircraft per year. Götz Ahmelmann, CEO of Mitteldeutsche Airport AG, expressed, "With the hereby laid foundation for the production line, Leipzig/Halle Airport will emerge as a beacon for sustainable aviation in Germany."

A logistics center, an acceptance hangar, and an administrative building are slated for the site. Saxony's Minister President, Michael Kretschmer, hailed the investment as a robust sign for the regional economy. He added, "This brings with it numerous appealing jobs and further economic growth in the region. Simultaneously, our entire aerospace sector benefits from this strengthening."
